Development & Communications Internship

The Borneo Project brings international attention and support to community-led efforts to defend forests, sustainable livelihoods, and human rights. We believe that protecting human rights and environmental integrity in Borneo is a critical component of the global movement for a just and peaceful world. We have worked for thirty years to help Borneo’s rainforest communities protect their lands, livelihoods, and cultures for generations to come.

The Borneo Project is looking for a motivated intern who is interested in exploring and learning about the world of international solidarity activism, environmental justice, and nonprofit administration. We are currently looking for a self-motivated intern to join our small U.S. team and learn about social media and development.

This is a 4-6 month internship for a college or graduate student, requiring a minimum of 4 hours/week. The position comes with a small monthly stipend. This is a great opportunity for someone to learn the basics of social media, development, and communications in environmental non-profit work. Preference for candidates who are based in the Bay Area, however remote candidates may be considered. Must be eligible to work in the USA.

Interns will be taught to:

  • Follow the weekly news cycle about rainforest conservation and Malaysian Borneo
  • Generate creative and engaging content for social media
  • Use social media scheduling tools and help develop messaging
  • Understand the basics of the fundraising and acknowledgement process
  • Update WordPress site with press releases and blog post

The ideal candidate:

  • has strong writing and communication skills
  • is comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
  • has a passion for human rights and the environment
  • is familiar with grassroots organizing
