Join us on November 16 as author Lukas Straumann discusses his book, Money Logging: On the Trail of the Asian Timber Mafia, and outlines the massive destruction of the Bornean rainforest by Malaysian loggers. Money Logging is a story of a people who have lost their ancient paradise to a wasteland of oil palm plantations, pollution, and corruption—and how they hope to take it back.
Money Logging has received criticism from the Malaysian government for the defamation of the Governor of Sarawak, Taib Mahmud, despite the book’s factual basis. As a result, the book will not be available from Amazon.com until November 20. Copies of Money Logging will be available for purchase at the event, currently one of the only places in the US to get the book.
A historian by training, Lukas Straumann is the executive director of the Bruno Manser Fund, a human rights and environmental organization that champions the rights of the indigenous peoples of Borneo. Lukas will be at the event to sign books, answer questions, and speak about the network of criminals who have earned billions through illegal timber sales and corruption.
