The Borneo Project is looking for motivated interns who are interested in exploring the world of international solidarity activism, international environmental justice issues, and non-profit administration. We have an internship opening for with a $300/month reimbursement stipend; this position requires a minimum of 10 hours/week. Much of the work can be done remotely, but interns are welcome to make use of our office space in downtown Oakland.
The Borneo Project works in solidarity with indigenous communities in Malaysian Borneo who are fighting for rights to their land and to conserve their natural resources. We believe that our role is to take leadership from communities who are directly impacted by environmental destruction and theft of traditionally-owned land. Over the last twenty years, the project has provided funding for communities fighting for land rights in courts, run indigenous-language preschools, brought international attention to blockades and direct actions, and much more. For more information on our current projects, check out www.borneoproject.org.
Task will include (but are by no means limited to):
- Research on dam and energy project expansion
- Maintaining and updating the Borneo Project website
- Material design and production
- Developing and running local Borneo Project events and tabling
- Donor development and fundraising support
- Support and preparation for Borneo Project 20th anniversary party
The Borneo Project is currently run by one individual with the support of a team of volunteers in the Bay Area. As such, interns will be involved in most aspects of project management, and must be excited about taking on a diversity of tasks that will change based on weekly priorities. Experience with writing, web management, and public speaking are a plus.
