The Indigenous Peoples Network of Malaysia has asked to Borneo Project for support in bringing indigenous peoples from around Malaysia to the celebrations of Indigenous People’s Day, which will be held from August 6-9 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I will be there, and want to make sure that indigenous peoples from all over Malaysia can be there too.

The Celebrations of Indigenous People’s Day will bring together at least 120 indigenous people from all over Malaysia, with more people coming from around Kota Kinabalu itself. The event will be open to the public.
There will be a craft and food exhibition, traditional sports, an Indigenous Economic Forum, and cultural performances. There will be showcases related to forest conservation as well. The primary goal of the event is to get different indigenous communities together in one place and share/discuss the issues faced in Malaysia. Seems like a great goal to me!
The budget for the event is almost entirely covered; all they need is an outstanding $1000 to get local travel covered for participants. Please join us in supporting this important event. Click here to donate now! Just specify “travel scholarships” in the comment box.
Bringing people together at events like this is a vital part of building a strong community, and strong support for indigenous peoples and their rights. Please help support these travel scholarships today.
