SPONSOR A VILLAGE PROJECT
Donations of $250 or more can be directed to sponsor the initiative of a particular indigenous community or other projects of partner organizations in BOrneo. Please indicate which of the following projects you would like to sponsor in the Comments section of the Donate page. Current initiatives seeking sponsorship include:
Legal aid fund: help communities struggling to protect forest, farming, and watershed resources by helping out with court fees for lawsuits.
Community preschools: Help support 3 preschools in Penan communities
Village mapping to protect ancestral forests against logging, oil palm or timber plantations, and giant hydroelectric dams
Rainforest restoration: planting native trees in logged-over areas
Micro-hydro electricity (for a Dusun community in the mountains of Sabah)
VOLUNTEER IN THE USA
The Borneo Project accomplishes the majority of its work through the assistance of dedicated individuals. Please join us! Volunteers with experience or interest in research, media, fundraising, website development, non-profit administration, videography, and mapping or GIS technology are especially welcome. There are also opportunities to help out with special events. We may be able to arrange unpaid internships for people with appropriate skills or interests. Please contact us to find out more.

VOLUNTEER IN BORNEO
We offer qualified volunteers the opportunity to work directly with our partner organizations in Sarawak and Sabah. If interested, please submit a resume and cover letter explaining your interest in Borneo, skills that you can offer, your interests and expectations, timelines for possible travel, and funds available. Given the rigorous physical conditions of rainforest travel and the political sensitivity of our partners' work, all volunteer applications must be approved by our steering committee.
TRAVEL TO BORNEO
The Borneo Project can help you plan unique and unforgettable ecological and cultural travel to Borneo. Help arranging travel is on a case-by-case basis and contingent upon priorities of our partner organizations in Borneo. Possibilities include homestays in indigenous communities and longhouses, river travel, rainforest and cave exploration in Sarawak, mountain trekking, wild orangutan viewing and coral reef snorkeling or diving in Sabah. We prioritize meaningful intercultural exchange and social responsible travel. We are happy to provide advice for committed travelers who share our concerns. The Borneo Project has worked with Global Exchange's Reality Tours program, as well as several Borneo organizations, communities, and businesses to facilitate supporters' visits. Please write to us with an explanation of your interests and possible travel dates.
The Borneo Project is sponsored by Earth Island Institute, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.
